A marriage contract can:

• Clearly define the vows of the marriage and the rights and duties of each spouse within the marriage

• Deny marital assets to a spouse who breaks the marriage vows

• Provide remedies to repair the marriage if the vows are broken

• Discourage divorce and encourage the keeping of the marriage vows

The document below is given as a general example of a marriage contract. For a marriage contract to be enforceable, it needs to be adapted to the laws of the state in which the marriage takes place.
